At its heart, AutoFlngr is not just a static LFO flanger. It features the rare rack mount MXR™ M111 AutoFlanger rack mount effect with envelope detection circuit. This means the flanging effect is “played” by your instrument. The intensity and speed of the sweep react dynamically to how hard or soft signal is play.

The Story of this Flanger devices

In the late 1970s, MXR™ released a series of BLUEFACE rack-mount effects.
The M111 AutoFlanger™ was unique because it not only an static LFO-based flanger device. it used an internal envelope follower to convert the amplitude of the incoming signal into a control voltage that varied the delay time of a Bucket Brigade Device chip. This allowed musicians to create flanging effects that opened up with pick attack or drum hits, offering a much more organic feel than traditional cyclic modulation.
And the_ M117_ was the classic pedal version, offering intense, manual LFO control over a much wider delay range.

AutoFlngr combines the best aspects of both units. We have the BBD path, the companding (emphasis/de- emphasis) circuits, and the exact time-constants of the M111’s envelope follower.
While the original module had no controls other than a bypass switch, AutoFlngr opens the hood.
We have added the wider range of the M117, manual LFO sweeps, Wet/Dry mix, Regeneration control, and full access to the envelope settings on the rear panel, allowing you to push the vintage circuitry into new, uncharted territories while maintaining that classic “chewy” analog tone.

MAIN CONTROLS

MODE: Toggles between the two circuit models:
- BlueFace AutoFlngr: Engages the envelope follower to control sweep up to the 2ms. Regen is disabled (as per original hardware).
- M117 (pedal Flanger isnpired): Engages the LFO to sweep up to the 12ms. Regen is active.

MANUAL: Sets the base delay time of the BBD.
- Auto Mode ( inspired by M111 device): Range is rigidly fixed to 0ms – 2ms for subtle texturing.
- 117 Mode (inspired by M117 pedal): Range is up to 12ms for classic, deep flanging.

SWEEP DEPTH: Determines the intensity of the internal LFO modulation applied to the delay time.
- Auto Mode: Range 0-2ms (LFO adds to the envelope).
- 117 Mode: Range 0-12ms.

SWEEP RATE: Sets the speed of the internal LFO.
- Auto Mode: 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz (Slower, vocal-like sweeps).
- 117 Mode: 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz (Capable of fast, vibrato-like warbles).

MIX: Blends the dry signal with the wet processed signal. 0% is fully dry, 100% is fully wet.

REGEN: Regeneration/Feedback: Active only in 117 Mode. Feeds the output of the flanger back into its input.
Higher values increase resonance and metallic ringing. Limited to not going for the self-oscillation

ENV TRIM: Like a “Sensitivity”, envelope follower modulation depth control. If set to “Stock, this control is locked to mimic the fixed calibration of the vintage hardware.
When unlocked (Manual) this allows you to attenuate or boost the amount of envelope signal driving the flanger, regardless of mode.

REAR PANEL CONTROLS

ENV FOLLOWER MODE: Determines how the incoming signal is read.
- Linear (Default): Replicates the full-wave rectifier of the original M111. Accurate and dynamic.
- Log: A logarithmic response, making the envelope more sensitive to quieter signals.
- Gate: Acts like a noise gate for the envelope; the flanger only triggers when the signal exceeds the threshold aggressively.

ATTACK: How quickly the flanger reacts to a transient.
RELEASE: How long the flanger “hangs on” after the signal stops.
THRESHOLD: The level the incoming signal must reach to trigger the envelope follower.
MOD PHASE: Changes the phase relationship of the LFO between the Left and Right channels. 0°: Mono flanging. 180° (Default): Wide, stereo “ping-pong” style flanging.
PHASE INVERT : Invert the phase of processed signal
DESTINATION: Selects which parameter is modulated by the Envelope Follower.
- Manual (Delay Time - Default): The classic AutoFlanger behavior.
- Depth, Rate, Regen, Phase, Mix: Allows you to create wild, dynamic patches where your playing controls LFO speed, feedback amount, or stereo width.

BETTER TO USE WITH:

Electric Guitars: The primary use case. Funk rhythms, arpeggios, and sustained chords come alive with dynamic flanging.

Drums & Percussion: Apply to drum loops or individual snare hits in Auto mode for an evolving, gated rhythmic texture.

Synthesizer Pads: Use Auto mode with a slow rate and low depth for classic analog movement.

Electric Pianos (Rhodes/Wurlitzer): Provides a thick, chewy modulation that rivals vintage vibe pedals.

Vocals: Subtle Auto flanging can add a unique doubling effect that sits differently in the mix than a standard chorus.
