Fairlight II+ by Bitley

Fairlight II+ is the second generation of the original Fairlight CMI Legacy ReFill, first released in 2010. Built by sampling and reprogramming the complete Fairlight IIx library, it expands the possibilities of the Reason ReFill format with an extensive collection of authentic Fairlight instruments, carefully crafted Combinator programming, and sounds developed in response to years of user feedback.

The library includes around 2,300 patches for Reason 4 and later. Alongside the original Fairlight sounds, it also features analog and digital instruments, custom Reason synthesizers, and creative combinations designed for modern music production.

Highlights include Airbass, a dedicated bass system with deep, punchy low end, and Orch, a collection of orchestral and cinematic instruments built specifically for Reason.

Bitley says

In the end, I had the sounds I had always dreamed of in Reason, and I could hardly believe how well everything had come together. It took many, many iterations and thousands of hours of work. But that is what happens when you cannot let something go. You keep sanding the damn boat. And then you sand it some more.

Rather than simply recreating a historic sampler, II+ brings the Fairlight sound into a modern production environment. Classic sounds are combined with Reason’s own instruments and Combinator architecture to create a library that feels equally at home in contemporary productions as it does in vintage-inspired music.

Unlike later releases in the series, II+ also includes a large collection of complete Reason song projects. They demonstrate programming techniques, arrangements, and practical ways of using the library in finished productions—making II+ both a production tool and a source of inspiration.

Many of these tracks later became part of Sampling The Fairlight CMI Refills, now available on all major streaming services.
