BallRoom Kinetic Ball Looper
Rooming Loops
- • Six looping balls travel through a room
- • Doors lead to speed, direction and octave cells
- • Doors open at random, by CV or by hand
BallRoom takes the Ballooper idea and opens the doors.
Every note you play launches a ball into the centre of a room. The ball records a short take of your audio and plays it back in a loop as it moves, at the speed it moves. Six balls can play at once, each with its own loop.
Around the centre arena runs a ring of corridors, divided into ten cells. Open a door and the balls escape into them: the SPEED corridor gives each ball a new speed, and so a new playback rate; the DIRECTION corridor sends its loop forward, backward or into a pendulum; the OCTAVE column drops or raises it an octave; RECAPTURE records a fresh take; and HOME sends the ball back to its starting state. The four arena walls keep their own functions: reverse, restart, half, double, random, choke and more.
Eight doors connect the arena, the corridors and the columns. Set each one closed, open, or automatic: automatic doors open at random with adjustable chance and hold time, or on a CV gate, so the room itself can follow your music. A door never closes on a ball.
Play in ROLL mode for continuous loops or HIT mode for one-shots on every wall hit, in TAPE or LOCK pitch mode, with balls that follow your keys (HOLD) or live on their own (LIFE). With a separate output per ball, position CVs across the whole room, wall-hit gates and a zone gate on every cell change, BallRoom is a looper, an arranger and a modulation source in one.
