EW Saturation

EW Saturation is a stereo saturator that models the behaviour of tape rather than simply clipping the signal.

At the centre is a soft-clipping stage with a wide, gradual knee — it starts colouring well before it starts distorting, so low Drive settings add density and glue without an obvious effect. As you push further, the curve tightens progressively into full saturation.

Everything is oversampled. Any waveshaper creates harmonics above the sample rate’s ceiling that fold back into the audible band as harsh, inharmonic grit — the “digital” quality that makes distortion plugins tiring. EW Saturation runs the shaping stage at eight times the session rate to push those artefacts out of the way, which drops them by roughly 30 dB at extreme settings while leaving the audible band flat. The oversampling factor scales with your session’s sample rate, so high-rate sessions don’t pay for processing they don’t need.
