Maremba brings four physically modelled percussion instruments into the Reason rack: the rounded bloom of a rosewood concert marimba, the shorter wooden tone of padauk, the gourd resonance of a balafon, and the intimate pluck of a kalimba. Every note comes from vibrating bars or tines, their supports and resonators, without recorded samples.
Shape the touch. Choose yarn, cord, rubber, wood or shaft for the wooden instruments, or flesh, thumb, nail, pick or tap for Kalimba. Hardness, Position and Decay shape each strike or pluck. Repeated strokes meet an instrument that is already moving, while Variance and Artifacts add rebounds, brushes and subtle differences. Four velocity curves and individual velocity-depth controls let your playing shape the sound.
Let the instrument resonate. Carving, Coupling, Bloom and Sympathetic connect the note to its air resonator, frame, soundboard and neighbouring keys. Add membrane buzz or board rattles, then adjust their Tension. The mod wheel rolls held wooden notes with alternating mallets; on Kalimba it covers the sound hole. Ring, Damp and Dead offer three ways to end a note.
Choose your perspective. Blend Close, Room and Piezo for airborne detail, space and local vibration. Wood, Chamber and Hall provide three room characters. Stereo Width, Warmth, Drive and limiting shape the Main mix. Dedicated stereo Close and Room outputs plus mono Piezo let you process each capture separately, independently of the Main mix controls.
Start with 20 factory patches, explore equal temperament or six traditional and measured tunings, and play with up to 24 voices. Seven CV inputs, sequencer automation and Remote mapping connect Maremba to your rack. Selectable 2x, 4x and 8x quality lets you balance processing detail and CPU use.
New in 1.5: softer wooden attacks, natural Decay at the midpoint, lighter diffuse rooms with softened early reflections, and rebalanced factory capture levels. Drive colors the complete Main mix while direct outputs stay clean. Main aligns the pickup with the airborne capture for a more consistent blend.
Requires Reason 14 or later.
