Reverb Lab RA-12
Placement-Based Reverb
- • Drag a speaker and mic around 12 modeled rooms
- • Set 14 materials per wall, floor and ceiling
- • Physics-based reflections and decay, 6 CV ins
Reverb Lab RA-12 is a placement-based room reverb. Instead of picking a size and a decay time, you drag a speaker and a stereo microphone around a bird’s-eye floor plan of a real-sized room and choose what every surface is made of. The reflections and the decay are calculated from the room’s geometry and materials, so moving the mic, turning the speaker or changing a wall changes the sound the way it would in the real space.
Place it, don’t dial it
Pick one of 12 rooms, then drag the speaker and the microphone anywhere on the floor plan. The speaker has an aim handle: point it at the mic for a clear, present sound, or turn it away and the highs fall off while the room takes over, just like a real cabinet. Move the mic farther away and the sound gets wetter, the same way it does in a real room. The display shows the mic distance, the floor and ceiling materials and the room’s RT60 as you work.
12 rooms
Hall, Cave, Tunnel, Closet, Chapel, Garage, Cathedral, Studio, Stairwell, Warehouse, Chamber 1 and Chamber 2, each built at real-world dimensions.
14 materials
Set the four walls, the floor and the ceiling independently: Rock, Concrete, Brick, Plaster, Tile, Plywood, Carpet, Drapes, Glass, Water, Absorber, Masonry, Gypsum and Hardwood. Every material has its own frequency-dependent absorption, so a glass room rings long and bright while drapes make it short and dark.
How it works
- Early reflections are calculated with the image-source method, up to second order, from every wall, the floor and the ceiling, and timed from the arrival of the direct sound.
- The late tail is a 16-line feedback delay network whose decay is derived from the room’s volume, its surface absorption and air absorption.
- Your input is the direct sound. The reverb is everything the room adds after it.
Controls
- Mix, Pre-Delay, Scatter, Decay Trim, Damping and Low Cut. At 50 % Mix, the balance of direct sound and room is the physically correct one for the current placement.
- Six CV inputs on the back, one per knob, each with its own trim.
- Patch browser on the front panel and 13 factory patches: one per room plus the default.
- True stereo in and out, with auto-routing when the device is created.
