The next major version of Reason is coming and it’s a doozy! I’m very happy and proud to announce that Reason 14 will be released in May 2026. Check out the New in 14 page to find out what we’ve been cooking up, or keep on reading for my color commentary on the what and the why.

With Reason 14, we set out to rethink the music-making workflow. That’s a pretty tall order, especially for software that has been around for over 25 years, but we constantly get feedback from all of you on how important a fast, focused workflow is. Since Reason is extremely open-ended, it’s very easy to end up with a song that you can actually get lost in. This is just as big of a problem for hardcore Reason lifers as it is for new creators.

One track mind

The new track-centric workflow in Reason 14 is the solution to that problem. By centering the experience around the sequencer and bringing key elements of each track and Rack into view, it’s easier to stay focused on what matters most: making music.

The key elements that make up this new way of working are the Track Panel, Rack per Track, and improvements to viewing the Rack in a separate window.

Reason 14

Track Panel is a new area in the sequencer designed to give you an overview of what’s on a selected track. You can add effects and Players, browse patches, bypass and re-order effects, and quickly access both sends and the fader section of the mixer. It’s easier than ever to get tracks going without jumping between different views and areas, and it especially shines in big projects with tons of tracks. By clicking on a device in the Track Panel, or double-clicking the track, you bring up the Rack—ready to tweak.

Speaking of the Rack, there are some big changes here too! A brand-new Rack setting called Rack per Track is the new default and can be turned on for old songs too. Like the name implies, this organizes the Rack to have one Rack column per track. No more getting lost in a sea of devices, just select a track and you’ll see its Rack.

We’ve also re-worked using the Rack in a separate window, which is also the new default. It’s a properly-floating window where you can choose to make it one Rack column wide. Coupled with Rack per Track, this means you’ll always see exactly what’s on a chosen track and nothing else. It’s a workflow that lets you focus on what’s important, without distractions.

A big takeaway from our recent releases and from your feedback is that everyone tends to develop their own workflow and have their own preferences. While we believe the new way of working is truly fantastic, we’ve made these features optional so you can toggle them and choose exactly how you want to make music.

RV-9 Reverb Station

RV-9 Granular Reverb

Included in Reason 14 is also a brand-new reverb device. The trusty old RV7000 has been around for a very long time and a lot has happened in the world of DSP and user interfaces since, so we felt it was high time for a follow-up.

RV-9 is much more hands-on and easier to use compared to the fiddly RV7000. It covers both classic must-have reverb sounds and new never-before-heard algorithms. I’m particularly happy with the Granular and Spectral reverbs. Granular is an ambient powerhouse, smearing the grains into lush reverb. Spectral is quite unique with crazy control over the frequencies and damping—its Tonal Resonance feature can tune your reverb tails into the notes of your choice.

There’s shimmer available for all reverb types, a powerful EQ, and ducking both for the reverb level and decay—and it all sounds fantastic. RV-9 packs some incredible ambience in a sleek package.

Sequencer upgrades

The sequencer is getting some great upgrades in Reason 14. Track Folders and Looped Clips are both top feature requests that I’m happy to get into your hands. Organizing your song becomes much easier with Track Folders, grouping your drums or just putting some alternate takes in a folder to hide them away for example. Looped Clips is also a workflow boon. Drag out a clip in the top right corner to create loops. Editing one instance changes them all. The really nice thing is that this is not just for MIDI and audio clips, but also for automation! You can easily do some funky rhythmic automation by looping a really short automation clip. Try it, you’ll love it.

There are also many smaller but very welcome sequencer tweaks. Some of my personal favorites are that you no longer need to select clips and notes to resize them and that the pen tool now removes existing notes instead of adding a new note on top. That’s not all, but this blog post is getting really long.

Signing off

Reason 14 is in many ways both an evolution and a revolution for Reason. The new workflow really does make a huge difference, but there’s also tons of new features—big and small—for every type of music maker. In other words, we’re all incredibly excited for you to get your hands on it when it releases in May 2026.
