KBN-P — Kinetic Bouncing Note Player
Bouncing balls that play your instrument — in key. KBN-P is a Reason Player: drop it
into the Player slot above any synth or sampler and four balls fly around an arena,
sounding a pitched note every time they strike a wall. Each wall is split into three
zones, and the twelve zones climb the scale you choose, so however chaotic the bouncing
gets, every note lands in key.
There’s nothing to patch — insert it and press play, and KBN-P performs the instrument
for you. The four balls give you up to four simultaneous voices of evolving melody, and
collisions ring the root note as a natural anchor. Anything you play from your keyboard
passes straight through, so you can hold chords or play a lead right over the generative
part.
Drop a horizontal or vertical trip line across the field and it becomes a ratchet: a ball
crossing it fires a burst of notes laddering up or down the scale — instant arpeggios
triggered by motion. Pick a root, octave and scale (ten of them, Major to Whole Tone),
add per-hit velocity, probability and full CV control over speed, position and randomness,
and you have a generative melody engine that never plays the same phrase twice.
For the studio tinkerer, the back panel also exposes four gate+note CV voice pairs and
eight ball-position CVs — so one KBN-P can drive a whole moving rig in parallel.
