Gate sequencer

DOODOV DIGITAL DESIGN

  • • 4 tempo-synced modules chaining into patterns
  • • Step gates that shape trigger probability
  • • 8 pattern slots + 12-flag Parade! song mode

Sentence is a creative tool for scheduling musical events with triggers and gates.

Four colored modules (Red, Blue, Yellow and Green) play one after the other. Each one repeats a tempo-synced duration, from a full bar down to a 1/32nd, as many times as you like. Change the repeats and durations and the chain of modules becomes a rhythmic sentence: short phrases, long pauses and odd groupings that loop in time with Reason’s clock.

Under the modules, a 16-step sequencer is driven by those same triggers. It builds gate patterns that can run poly-metric against the triggers that drive them, and those gates decide how likely a trigger is to fire. You set one probability for active steps and another for inactive steps, so the pattern breathes without ever losing its structure.

You can store up to eight patterns, mutate them, reshuffle them and chain them into a song with Parade!, a 12-flag arranger that plays each pattern as many times as you choose before moving on.

Sentence produces no sound of its own. Patch its outputs into step sequencers, envelopes, drum modules, samplers or anything else that responds to a trigger or a gate.
